CYCLAMEN LATINA

Cyclamen (Cyclamen persicum) is a petite flowering plant that has sweet-scented, small blooms on long stems that stretch up above the foliage. It is a tuberous perennial, meaning it dies down to its thick roots (tubers) during its summer dormancy period and then regrows quickly each fall. Flowers come in shades of pink, purple, red, and white.

The heart-shaped leaves are medium green, often with silver marbling. It's commonly grown as a houseplant and is especially popular during the winter holiday season, when you can find cyclamen blooming

• Height: 10 - 12 inches (25 - 30 cm)

• Width: 10 - 12 inches (25 - 30 cm)

• The Cyclamen Latinia® Lilac is best suited for USDA hardiness zones 9 to 11

• The Cyclamen Latinia® Lilac thrives under specific growing conditions to ensure healthy growth and vibrant blooms. Here are the key requirements:

• Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, especially during the hottest part of the day1.

• Temperature: Ideal temperatures range from 40°F to 50°F (4°C to 10°C) at night and 60°F to 70°F (15°C to 21°C) during the day1.

• Humidity: High humidity is crucial, especially during the winter1.

• Soil: Needs well-draining, organically rich soil with a slightly acidic pH. Mixing sphagnum peat into the soil can help achieve the right acidity1.

• Watering: Water when the soil feels dry about an inch below the surface. Avoid getting water on the leaves or crown to prevent rot1.

• Dormancy: The plant goes dormant in the summer. During this period, keep it in a cool, dark spot with good air circulation

The Cyclamen Latinia® Lilac is generally robust, but like all plants, it can be susceptible to certain diseases. Here are some common issues and tips for managing them:

• Bacterial Soft Rot and Fusarium Wilt:

  • Symptoms: Rapid yellowing and wilting of the entire plant.

  • Management: Unfortunately, these diseases are often fatal. It’s best to discard affected plants to prevent the spread1.

• Botrytis Blight:

  • Symptoms: Tan leaf spots and water-soaked flower petals that develop tan spots and gray fungus.

  • Management: Improve air circulation by isolating the plant and using a fan. Remove affected parts promptly1.

• Leaf Spot:

  • Symptoms: Round spots that can be yellow, gray, or brown with black dots inside.

  • Management: Avoid getting water on the leaves or crown. Water from the bottom if necessary1.

• Thielaviopsis Root Rot:

  • Symptoms: Stunted growth with black and shriveled roots.

  • Management: Discard infected plants to prevent the disease from spreading1.

To minimize the risk of these diseases, ensure good air circulation, avoid overhead watering, and use clean, well-draining soil. Regularly inspect your plants for early signs of disease and act quickly if you notice any issues.

The Cyclamen Latinia® Lilac typically flowers from August through February1. This variety is known for its early and uniform blooming, making it a popular choice for adding color during the cooler months.
